Further to my comment I should have read Martha Nussbaum's New Republic illuminating essay on Judith Butler before making my somewhat cavalier remark about gender.
Thank you for this commentary. I tend to shy away from gender arguments believing that much in our lives is ordained by nature and who we are sexually is one thing we should take for granted. But your remarks on writing about 'writing' is right on the money. My interests are more historical and political than philosophical but exploring political origins and principles can get pretty obtuse. So thank you and I will subscribe. David Stern
